In a recent NYT blog post, writer David Bornstein profiles Year Up, a client company of The Predictive Index since 2005. Year Up carries out its mission to close the opportunity divide, by preparing urban youth with the necessary skills to succeed in a professional culture. Bornstein looks at what makes Year Up so successful and quite different from your “run-of-the-mill job training program.” Certainly, the organization and its founder Gerald Chertavian have made impressive strides in what Bornstein describes as, “making it easier for top companies to recognize the talent that remains unseen, and largely untapped, in millions of our nation’s youth.” The Predictive Index® (PI®), a suite of tools that measures the motivation and drive of people, is woven into Year Up’s culture. Having trained many leaders in the PI at Year Up, they have found it to be incredibly valuable in identifying and developing their team to work more effectively together in carrying out the non profit’s mission. As Year Up provides its students with the tools they need to succeed, we’ve been fortunate to provide them with the data-driven insight of the Predictive Index to support internal team building, employee development as well as conflict resolution.
