This TED talk addresses one of the most critical issues of our time. How do we move forward into a more highly mechanized world without leaving the less educated behind? We are already here. Where my son works at Microsoft, many of the workers are ‘green card’ holders who were brought here from India, China and elsewhere because too few Americans are ready for these jobs. At the very same time, American children are graduating with expensive degrees that give them no hope of a job.
I hope all of you who are in technology will contact your local school and find a way to encourage more young people to follow S.T.E.M. careers. Ironically, virtually every engineer in college today had a parent or close relative who was an engineer. We need to encourage, mentor and motivate more young people to follow these paths. It will put them on a trajectory for success in life.
