I received this email today:

Hi Steve,

I found your contact info on a forum re: the PI Survey.  I recently took this survey as part of the job interview process.  I was given my summary at the end of the interview.  Once I got home I read the results.  I can not express how accurate, even shocking the results were – it was scary.   Now, how do I use this information to my benefit while trying to find employment?

Thank you for your time

Michelle B

Here is my response:

Michelle,

Great question. One of the uses of PI is to identify people who would be a good fit for a job. If you feel that the results in your survey help your chances for an upcoming job, feel free to attach your PI report. I’ve seen people even post them on Linkedin and Facebook.

Best of luck to you,

Steve

How Assessment Drive Results in Mergers and Acquisitions

November 15th, 2009

Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) are important strategies that companies use to accelerate growth, improve efficiency or penetrate new markets. In order to improve the odds of achieving the desired goals, their due diligence usually involves exhaustive analyses of financials, current and future markets, products and services, staffing levels and more. But when the analysis stops there, it’s incomplete. After all the numbers are crunched and all the projections are tested, it will be people who ultimately make these blended organizations succeed. And companies that fail to incorporate an analysis of that asset – beyond mere head counts — run the risk of not only delaying progress toward their goal, but potentially ensuring failure. In fact, the results of an industry survey recently published in the Washington Post reveal that up to 70% of mergers and acquisitions that fail are because the companies don’t pay enough attention to the challenges of integrating their people. However, there are steps you can take to reduce the chances of culture clash and increase your odds of success. Read more

Assessments’ Role in Team Building

Using assessments to evaluate employees’ work and learning styles can facilitate team building and help managers capitalize on their individual strengths. Blending the right mixture of personalities and behaviors can accelerate team performance.

As the economy recovers, many organizations are working with newly formed groups and teams as a result of corporate downsizings, mergers and restructurings. Other organizations throughout the world have deliberately adopted team-based work structures to meet their business objectives, and many models of the organization of the future are premised on teams surpassing individuals as the primary performance unit in the company.

Behavioral assessments can not only give an individual a clear understanding of his or her strengths, but also they can give managers and teammates an objective way to discuss differences in work styles. Companies can open lines of communication, understand how to overcome differences and ensure they have people in place who complement each other. Read more

Fun at work is more than occasional games

October 18th, 2009

A recent article in the Jacksonville Times Union was titled:
Having fun at work: Productive or pointless?

As one of the reader comments pointed out, there is more to a positive work environment than supplemental activities designed to make a people happier. In fact, countless studies show that the job starts with selecting people who are already a good fit for the job. The better the fit, the more the employees will ‘naturally’ enjoy the job.

Top performing Florida companies like LBA Group, Chico’s, and LifeSouth use assessment tools like Predictive Index to identify candidates who are likely to enjoy and be productive in their work environment. By hiring smarter, they naturally get higher productivity and lower turnover. While these companies still offer ‘fun events’, employees who are right for the job tend to be happier all the time.

There are several case studies that managers might find helpful at http://www.predictiveresults.com/PredictiveIndex/PICaseStudies.asp

PI Offers Solution for Nursing Home Rating System

May 30th, 2009

The new system, instituted by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, has become the focus for nursing homes around the country. As the public’s familiarity with this system increases, they will increasingly rely on these ratings when choosing a facility. Since the final rating is based on a state-wide ranking, being the best is the only way to score well.

Every administrator knows that you can’t inspect quality into a facility. Consistent quality is the result of well defined policies, procedures and systems that are faithfully executed by the entire staff. While developing these is difficult enough, getting your staff to faithfully execute them is the ultimate challenge.

Our solution addresses this key issue. Read more

Good leaders know what motivates

March 5th, 2009

What makes a good boss? One trait might be to take to heart the old adage “Know thyself.”

Though many managers think of themselves as effective and compassionate leaders, asking around the office might elicit a different evaluation.
